7 Things → Seven Friends on Substack
At least once a week, I get new subscribers from the Substack pages of my writing friends. This week's Saturday7 is dedicated to sharing pages I subscribe to. What Substack's would you recommend?
ONE
I hope you’ve at least come across Karen Swallow-Prior on social media. She’s a literature professor by trade, and I respect both her intellect and integrity in navigating the evangelical world she’s been a part of for a number of years. THEOLOGY & LITERATURE
TWO
My favorite series Shawn Smucker has done was Rideshare Confessionals, which were stories he shared about his experiences as an uber driver. From fiction to heartfelt personal narrative, Shawn is a writer I admire, and am proud to call friend. PARENTING & BEHIND-THE-SCENES WRITING
THREE
It can be a lot for writers to figure out how to navigate a social media presence, create an email newsletter, and write original content for articles and books (occasionally throwing in a podcast as well). Jen Pollock Michel alway delivers good content for her email readers. I always try to get hers read. THEOLOGY & SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
FOUR
Shauna Niequist seems to have found an email rhythm with her substack newsletter, “Reading and Eating.” She’s one of my favorite authors, so anything she finds the time to write is jus right by me. FOOD & MEMOIR
FIVE
Of all the names on this list, I feel like Sarah Bessey’s is the one most true to being a “newsletter.” She puts in a lot of work to have a full lineup in her newsletters, and her paid subscriber editions are full of a lot of extra. Plus, a great way to show writers support (thanks to my own paid subscribers)! THEOLOGY & CHURCH
SIX
I’m a big proponent of reading broadly, and Melissa Florer-Bixler keeps me thinking. I highly recommend both her books and the substack. BIBLE & CURRENT EVENTS
SEVEN
Maybe especially for writers, but I sure do enjoy Stephanie Duncan Smith’s “Slant Letter.” She’s an out-of-the-box thinker, and I always walk away with new ideas. WRITING & PUBLISHING
Reading was looking grim, but then here comes Traci.
