7 Things → Praying to the saints, veneration, a Presbyterian, Memorial Day
The first two things continue to address some objections I've heard about Catholicism.
ONE
I’ve written about this one myself, and read a handful of books about “praying to the saints,” a common practice since early Christianity. It’s helpful to read instead “ask the saints to pray for us.”
TWO
To understand Mary’s role as the human vessel that carried the Son of God, a good definition of veneration is helpful.
THREE
While Catholicism is what Western Christianity knows best (although what we think we know is often misunderstandings), the Orthodox tradition holds similar doctrinal beliefs about many things.
FOUR
Much of it lies with our understanding of Tradition (note the capital), and time spent reading the Early Church Fathers and Mothers.
FIVE
If you’ll allow me once more… I had another writer friend who was in Rome for the Conclave. A Presbyterian! She shared her thoughts here.
SIX
Thoughts on Memorial Day.
SEVEN
Are you getting together with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend? When the weather warms, I often turn to this dessert.
